TCIA's Electrical Hazard Awareness Program (EHAP)

Date: March 22, 2019
Location: City of Eugene Public Works, Eugene, OR, UNITED STATES
Organizer: CRUX Climbing, Rigging and Training, Corp.
Sponsor: City of Eugene
Description: Electricity is a serious and widespread hazard to arborists and other high angle industries; and one of the leading causes of tree care related fatalities. Furthermore, almost all high angle industries or those working at heights have at least some exposure to this hazard. A street lamp circuit, a cable TV wire, even a phone line can be energized with enough voltage to kill. Indirect contact through a green tree branch or other conductive object is an ever-present threat. One doesn't have to touch a wire to be electrocuted, and about half of all electrocution fatalities are the result of indirect contact.

EHAP helps meet yearly OSHA safety requirements to recognize and avoid electrical hazards for anyone who works near utility lines. EHAP must be used in combination with documented on-the-job skills training and verification to meet OSHA 1910.269 requirements.

Once a candidate has completed all training, TCIA will issue a certificate of completion (valid for one year from date of issue), transcript storage in the TCIA database, helmet decal, and laminated wallet card.
