    How to Talk Trees—To Just About Anyone

    Summary

    As arborists and urban foresters, being a member of “Team Lorax” is part of our job—speaking for the trees by informing and educating people about trees and tree care.  In this session, these two “Presentation Professors” will help you discover the tips, tricks, and techniques to effectively present tree information in written and verbal forms.     Paul Johnson, Regional Urban Forester, Texas A&M Forest Service, San Antonio, Texas, United States

    Paul Johnson is the Urban Forestry Program Coordinator for the Texas A&M Forest Service.  Paul is an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Board Certified Master Arborist and Municipal Specialist. He is a member of the ISA Board of Directors, coordinator of San Antonio Arborist Association, and a member of ISA’s Educational Goods and Services and Certification Test Committees.  He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Forestry and has been a radio talk show host, newspaper columnist, Extension horticulturist, University adjunct instructor, and plant health care specialist.

    Paul D. Ries has over 25 years of urban forestry experience at the local, state, national, international, non-profit, and academic levels.  Currently, he teaches urban forestry and arboriculture courses at Oregon State University as an Instructor and Extension Specialist in the OSU College of Forestry, and also manages the state Urban and Community Forestry program for the Oregon Department of Forestry. He serves as a lead incident public information officer for wildfires and all risk incidents, and is a member of the Board of Directors for the International Society of Arboriculture, a world-wide 20,000 member non-profit organization. He holds a master’s degree from the Ohio State University and is an ISA Certified Arborist.
