Trees and Forests: Innovative European Research on Urban Woodlands
Summary
Europe comprises a mixture of countries, climates, landscapes, cultures and languages. Across this diversity, towns and cities have had a long tradition of woodland ownership and management for their citizens and for the many environmental benefits woodlands provide in the cityscape. Drawing links to this rich urban forestry heritage, the presentation will provide examples of the latest research developments and innovations regarding 1) quantification of urban woodland resources; 2) ecosystem service provision; and 3) the role of urban woodlands in the development of multifunctional green infrastructures across the continent.
