    Summary

    Since the discovery of Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB) in Worcester, Massachusetts, in August 2008, the tree-climbing professionals of the USDA have made it a priority to eradicate this highly invasive tree-killing insect. Come learn about the signs of ALB, the approach strategy of tree climbing for inspection, and the tools, tricks, and the inside scoop from climbers to help stop ALB. Learn how they mix up their climbing styles for long term body health, climbing 4 to 20 trees each day!

    Presenters

     

    Melissa LeVangie has been passionately involved in the field of arboriculture for over 14 years. LeVangie is the Owner/Operator of an arboricultural consulting firm called Trees New England based in Central, Massachusetts. She provides consulting to private, state and federal entities and develops safety programs and websites for small tree care companies.  She is an ISA Certified Tree Worker and Certified Arborist, as well being a certified arborist in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, and a Certified Tree Safety Professional.

    Melissa is Past President of the Massachusetts Tree Wardens and Foresters Association, and Past President of the New England Chapter of ISA.  She currently is the Chair of the New England ISA Tree Climbing Competition. Melissa enjoys providing arboricultural presentations to organizations like garden clubs, cemetery associations, and conferences a like educating people about the importance, health and magic of trees. Melissa has also assisted to develop an annual Women’s Tree Climbing Workshop that has brought multiple levels of learning how to tree climb to artists, interested professionals, photographers and tree enthusiasts.
