Trees and Sidewalks: Infrastructure Coexisting Side by Side
Summary
Most community street trees are adjacent to sidewalks and curbs. Proper design, repair retrofit, and prevention can allow the two community infrastructure elements to co-exist side by side. Improper design can cost a community millions of dollars in repairs, and reduces the shade canopy.
The session will discuss the causes, available materials, design options, and transitional steps to extend the life of trees and sidewalks for communities, reducing future costs, and preserving shade canopy.
