Pollinator Protection and Right-of-Way Management Go Hand-in-Hand: Three Case Studies of Local Approaches to Habitat Improvement for Pollinators
Summary
Pollinator Partnership (P2), Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), and Sacramento County Parks are conducting a test of IVM practices intended to enhance pollinator communities. This is the first controlled test of IVM focused on beneficial insect species in the western region of the United States. Preliminary findings indicate that IVM sites have more resident bees than mowed controls within the same utility corridor. We are developing a companion outreach plan and BMPs to support the broader adoption of pollinator focused IVM on rights-of-way.
