Advanced Tree Biology: Primer on Essential Elements and Tree Health.
Summary
This workshop will be an advanced look at tree essential elements for tree health care providers. Essential elements will be viewed from soil availability and uptake, through incorporation within the physiological processes of a tree. Coverage will include element formation, defining essentiality, the 19 tree essential elements, new elements which could be found essential in trees, element availability and interactions, element use within a tree, pH issues, and major misdiagnosis problems of element deficiency and toxicity. In addition, a special section will concentrate on the assimilation of nitrogen inside a tree. This presentation is for advanced tree health care providers and with concentrate only on dicot tree physiology. Fertilizer formulation/application and soil element transformations will not be covered. An extensive workshop manual and completion certificate will be provided.

Kim D. Coder, Ph.D., is Professor of Tree Biology and Health Care at the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, US.
He
is a former president of the ISA Board of Directors and has received three
worldwide professional awards for his service to the arboriculture profession. Dr. Coder is author of over 500 technical publications and articles, and is an internationally-recognized lecturer and consultant to private citizens, corporations, attorneys, and communities on tree health care, tree biomechanics, abiotic tree stress, risk management, tree physiology, and community forest ecology.
He has degrees from Iowa State University in forestry, tree biology, and forest ecology.
