Arborist, author and historian, Donald F. Blair helps the ISA celebrate its 90th anniversary by sharing some its history. Attitudes about the use of spurs in 1881 or topping in 1907 may surprise you. Some long-forgotten ISA history may also be a surprise. Think the ITCC got its ISA start in 1976 in St. Louis? Come and find out when the first competition actually place. Follow the progress of arborist equipment, practices, safety and training over the past 150 years and gain a better understanding of how the National Shade Tree Conference came to be founded in 1924.

As an arborist, author, lecturer and historian,
Donald F. Blair has informed and entertained arborists throughout the world for over 40 years.
Don has been a member of ISA for over 40 years and is a proud recipient of the ISA's Author's Citation and was the inaugural recipient of the Excellence in Practical Arboriculture Award. Blair helped establish the ITCC, served on the Western Chapter committee that led to Certification, and has been a pioneer in the modernization of much of the climbing and rigging equipment and techniques that are standard practice today. A native Californian, Don resides in rural Maryland with the true love his his life, Laurie and their dog Duncan.
