Organic pesticides: reviewing the science behind their efficacy
Summary
Municipalities around the world are reducing or eliminating conventional
pesticide use in their public greenspaces to decrease environmental pollution
and protect human health. Pest management in these communities increasingly
relies upon organic pesticides more favorably regarded by the public. While these OMRI-certified pesticides may be
regarded as safer than conventional products, their demonstrated efficacies range from highly effective to
variable to ineffective. This seminar will summarize the published research
behind some of the most widely used organic pesticides, with special mention of
those materials with no definitive science behind their use.
