How Municipals and Agencies can successfully negotiate with Electric Utilities on Transmission Right of Way Vegetation Management.
Summary
Cities and agency lands with electric transmission lines are
being told by utilities that there is only one solution to meeting NERC and
other regulatory requirements. The one solution is clear-cutting all non-compatible
vegetation in one cycle.
Utilities have different departments that service the
community/Municipal (Customer Care, Governmental Affairs and Media) and
examples of how to look for partnerships with other departments within the
utility to help negotiate win-win agreements with the Vegetation Managers.
A review of NERC and other regulatory issues that affect
Utilities will be presented. Different strategies will be presented that can be
negotiated to develop a staged approach to meeting utilities needs and the
needs of the municipals.
New technologies will be described that Agencies can request
the utility to use in the development of their Transmission Vegetation
Management Plan. The new technology can reduce the annual tree removal while
meeting the utilities NERC and reliability requirements.
