Climbing the Technology Tree Using GIS

    Summary

Although Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has been around for more than 30 years, it is still in its infancy in many organizations and industries.  With the increase of available map products and applications being developed on a daily basis, mobile and web-based solutions have made their way into the tree management industry. We’ll demonstrate solutions that have simplified the inventory process and daily management of tree maintenance – with robust query & reporting tools.

Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is in the forefront of municipal tree management concerns and many communities are using the power of GIS to develop strategies for managing this pest with the goal of mitigating the impact of EAB on their urban tree canopy. We will demonstrate how GIS is and can be a valuable management tool in the EAB toolbox.
