Conference Package

This package includes all registration materials, Free Sunday Branch Out Sessions, Sunday Arboriculture Celebration and Welcome Reception (on Trade Show Floor), Monday - Wednesday Educational Sessions, Monday - Tuesday Trade Show with Climbers' Corner. Break and reception refreshments are included along with a continental breakfast on Tuesday. Transportation also provided for the ITCC & Arbor Fair/Expo from ISA hotels to the U.S. National Arboretum Friday-Sunday.

If an attendee is not an ISA member at the time of registration, they will be charged the non-member rate. Conference Package Non-member registrations include a one-year ISA Professional Membership.

Student Member Package

Transportation also provided for the ITCC & Arbor Fair/Expo from ISA hotels to the U.S. National Arboretum Friday-Sunday.

Exploring Tree Anatomy Workshop (Friday–Sunday)

Friday, 28 July and Saturday, 29 July, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm;
Sunday, 30 July, 8:00 am - 3:00 pm—(presented by Mark Hartley)
This 3-day intensive tree anatomy workshop will teach you to read trees from the inside-out, helping you more accurately diagnose tree health and vitality issues. Learn about the differences between woody and absorbing roots, assess the structure of woody plant parts from three different planes to aid in the process of identification and diagnosis, better understand how large woody monocots grow, and discover the tree health and function implications of good and bad pruning cuts. Dozens of hands-on activities and practical demonstrations are sure to keep you engaged. You will leave this workshop with a new understanding of the complexity and inner-workings of the trees you manage every day.

This workshop will be held at the U.S. National Arboretum.

Break refreshments, lunch, and transportaton from the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center to the arboretum is included.

ASTI: Aerial Rescue & Climbing Safety in the Workplace

Friday, 28 July; 8:00 am – 4:00 pm—presented by Chris Bruner and Jared Abrojena

Learn about Emergency Response System, Aerial Rescue tips and tricks, preventative measures and more, while understanding the progression of innovation of climbing systems, hardware, work positioning, pre-climbing plan, and more which all lends to increased safety.

The Trees (and Soils) of Washington's Monument Tour (Full Day)

Saturday, 29 July; 8:00 am - 4:00 pm —(presented by Jim Urban)
The tour will visit many important sites with an arboriculture perspective and showcase the history of different attitudes towards tree planting, tree protection and tree preservation. Participants will see history and trees play out in the white-hot light of our largest national theater and discuss the conflicts between trees, people and American democracy. The tour will be lead by James Urban, FASLA who has spent nearly 40 years working on projects for the National Park Service, the Smithsonian Institution, the National Gallery of Art, and the Architect of the Capitol.

Lunch and transportation will be provided.

Arlington National Cemetery Tree Tour (Half Day)

Sunday, 30 July; 8:00 am - 12:00 pm —(presented by Greg Huse, et al.)
Arlington National Cemetery is a National Shrine- the final resting place of over 400,000 veterans and their family members. Every year, millions of visitors including heads of states, dignitaries and government officials visit the cemetery to pay their respects. For most people, this is what comes to mind when they think of Arlington National Cemetery.

But did you know that the cemetery is also home to an extremely diverse and significant collection of woody plants, especially its majestic trees? There are more than 8,700 trees on the hallowed grounds, comprised of about 350 varieties and species. The cemetery’s oldest trees pre-date the first burials in 1864 and are over 250 years old.

In commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the cemetery in 2014, the Memorial Arboretum was established to serve as a living memorial to those that have served the nation. A year later, the cemetery achieved accreditation as a Level II Arboretum through the ArbNet and Morton Arboretum program.

This workshop will include a walking tour of the cemetery tree collections, an overview of the cemetery arboriculture program, management practices, and collections management.

Women in Arboriculture Networking Session

Monday, 31 July; 7:00 am - 8:30 am—Do you know whom to reach out to when you need assistance, or are looking to help out with a project of interest? Networking develops supportive relationships that help you advance your career. Women benefit professionally by sharing resources and experiences with other women working in the same field. Finding positive role models and mentors is especially critical for women working in traditionally male-dominated fields.

The Arboricultural Research and Education Academy is sponsoring this year's Women in Arboriculture Networking Session, including a breakfast, coffee and assorted teas. The Women in Arboriculture networking session brings together inspiring speakers with diverse backgrounds to share their experiences in working with trees. This year's session will feature a special discussion with renowned educator Sharon Lilly and acclaimed author Jill Jonnes. Come interact with women from around the world who share a passion for trees.

This session is a great chance to meet, network, and exchange ideas with fellow arborists. All conference attendees—women and men—are welcome to join us! You may purchase tickets to this event as a supplement to your conference registration when you register online (early registration closes July 25). CEUs will be available.

AREA Meeting and Student Social

Monday, 31 July; 5:15 pm - 8:00 pm—Students, conference speakers, and attendees are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to meet with Arboricultural Research and Education Academy (AREA) colleagues. The event will begin at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center with the annual AREA meeting at 5:15 pm followed by a networking social from 6-8pm at the Public House. Some drinks and appetizers will be provided with your ticket. Special recognition will be given to the 2017 AREA student travel grant recipients and ISA Student Ambassadors. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. A ticket will be required for entry to the networking social at the Public House.

TREE Fund After Hours Silver Anniversary Tour Celebration & MAC-ISA Party

Tuesday, 1 August; 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm—You are invited to come celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Tour des Trees, followed by music and dancing. Relax and enjoy an evening with your colleagues and MAC-ISA. Free admission, appetizers included and cash bar available.

SMA—Municipal Specialist Certification Prep Course

Wednesday, 2 August; 8:00 am - 5:00 pm—This full-day workshop will help prepare individuals for the ISA Municipal Specialist Certification exam, to be taken at a future date. The ISA Municipal Specialist Certification Preparation Course was developed by the Society of Municipal Arborists, and will provide an overview of all six of the exam’s domains, including: Policy/Planning, Administration, Risk Management, Arboricultural Practices, Communication Skills, and Public Relations/Education. The presentations for each domain will include terms, key concepts, and suggested items for self-study.

Lunch will be provided.

SCA Field Day

Wednesday, 2 August; 8:00 am - 3:00 pm
Join the Society of Commercial Arboriculture for another exciting and educational Field Day! We will be traveling to Bartlett Tree Experts for a morning of information and a tour of their state of the art facility in Gaithersburg. We will also be visiting George Washington’s Mt. Vernon, A Bartlett maintained property, for lunch (included), our Annual Business Meeting, and a tour by the current Director of Horticulture, Dean Norton. CEU opportunities will be available along the route.

Mount Vernon is an iconic American landmark - an enduring reminder of the life and legacy of the Father of Our Country. Once a vibrant plantation in the 18th century, the estate is now one of the nation’s most visited historic sites. Combining an authentically interpreted 18th-century home, lush gardens and grounds, intriguing museum galleries, immersive programs, and first-rate dining and shopping, Mount Vernon is an incomparable national treasure.

ISA Botanic Garden and US Capitol Tour

Wednesday, 2 August; 8:00 am - 12:00 pm
United States Botanic Garden (USBG) is a living plant museum, in our Nation's Capital, that informs visitors about the importance of plants to humans. The Conservatory was built in 1933 and consist of approximately 26,000 square feet of planting area.

USBG tour will be led by Shaun Abell (USBG Arborist) and we will take guests for a walking tour of the US Capitol Grounds to learn about the care and maintenance of the Capitol’s historic and memorial living arbor specimens. This will include the challenges of growing trees in a conservatory. There will be ample time for questions and answers. Time and weather permitting, the tour will be able to proceed outside to view our gardens and learn our approaches to sustainability.

Attendees that have Conference Package registration may attend afternoon educational sessions at the Gaylord National Convention Center upon returning from tour.

Casey Trees Tour

Wednesday, 2 August; 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Opening session/welcome at the Gaylord Convention Center from Casey Trees, followed by tours around the D.C. area. Join Casey Trees for an exciting and educational field experience around the city through the eyes of local organizations. We will visiting spots not normally covered by tours of DC but rather residents’ cherished natural spaces. We will be traveling across the city to see work done with many partners including: The Nature Conservancy, The District Department of the Environment, The Urban Forestry Administration, Living Classrooms and many more. Come see why residents not only love the livability of the District but also the trees! Lunch will be provided.
