Urban forests across North America continue to face escalating pressure from invasive and native insect pests. This session introduces azadirachtin – a botanical, systemic insecticide extracted from the seeds of the neem tree (Azadirachta indica) – being widely used to manage a broad range of destructive forest pests such as emerald ash borer, European elm scale, spongy moth, and sawflies.
Through an overview of azadirachtin’s mode of action, environmental profile, and research backed efficacy – focusing on TreeAzin® and LALGUARD AZA® – participants will gain a clear understanding of how this tool fits within an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) framework. The session also explores the fundamentals of tree injection technology, treatment timing, BioSIM forecasting tools, and real world trial results demonstrating effective population suppression and canopy protection. Attendees will leave with practical insights to support evidence based decision making in municipal, commercial, and consulting forestry settings - ensuring healthier, more resilient urban trees.
