Trees are commonly damaged during construction and successful preservation requires special consideration. This comprehensive workshop explores strategies for managing trees during construction through all phases of development. Learn about:
The value of preserving existing trees with development;
The importance of the arborist’s role throughout project planning, design and construction;
Identifying trees that are suitable for preservation;
The possible ways trees may be affected by construction;
Tree protection measures and monitoring;
The use of alternative construction techniques to provide for tree protection; and
Addressing tree damage, risk potential and remedial treatments.
This workshop is suitable for arborists and professionals of all levels but is targeted to arborists with limited experience in offering consulting services related to tree preservation or construction monitoring, landscape architects who coordinate with project arborists or design with existing trees in mind, and municipal and agency staff members that review and enforce tree protection plans.
Includes an indoor presentation and outdoor exercise.

Morgan Holen is a fourth-generation forester with two degrees in forestry, a Bachelor of Science in Forest Management from the University of Washington and a Master of Environmental Management in Forestry, Forest Science and the Management of Forests for Conservation and Development from Yale University. She is an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist (PN-6145B) and Qualified Tree Risk Assessor, a member of the Society of American Foresters and the American Society of Consulting Arborists and a Director for the non-profit Oregon Community Trees. Morgan is the owner of Morgan Holen & Associates, LLC, a consulting arborist and urban forest management company based in Wilsonville, Oregon and has protected thousands of trees on development projects throughout the Portland Metropolitan region and beyond over the last 13 years. Morgan will share her expertise and project experiences to provide you with a thorough understanding of the arborist’s role in providing tree protection during all phases of development on construction sites.
