Description:
Wood decay and biomechanical instability are major contributors to tree failure but can be difficult to detect and evaluate. This course reviews the biology of wood decay fungi, methods for identifying external and internal signs, and the application of biomechanics to predict failure potential. Case studies and diagnostic tools (resistographs, sonic tomography, visual inspection) will be discussed to provide arborists with practical approaches for evaluating hidden risks.
