Description:
Join Casey Clapp, Principal Arborist, Author and Educator of Portland Arboriculture at the Basic Tree ID workshop. This workshop covering the basics of tree ID with an in-classroom session – followed by lunch – and an outdoor session focused on reinforcing the techniques and points covered in the morning.
Focus of the course is an introduction to the technical aspects of tree identification and how to use what you see and learn in the field. The morning will be held inside and will focus on how we organize and name trees, what sets them apart and how to describe their parts in order to narrow down your species. This section will also cover why trees identification is important in arboriculture.
The afternoon will be spent outside applying what we learned in the morning. There is never enough time to cover the number of species in our region, so we’ll instead be focusing on finding examples and identifying trees outside, answering questions and clarifying the abstract ideas of tree identification with actual trees.
