Date: September 29, 2025 - September 30, 2025
Location: Noble Oak Safety & Training / NJ Crane Expert, Frenchtown, NJ, UNITED STATES
Organizer: Noble Oak Safety & Training
Description: Theory and Applications of Air Spading in Arboriculture Course held in Frenchtown, NJ!

This 8-hour (2 half days) course provides a comprehensive overview of the science, techniques, and best practices for using air excavation tools in arboriculture.

DAY 1 (1:00PM-5:00PM): Participants will explore the theory behind air spading, including soil science fundamentals, root biology, and the impact of soil compaction on tree health. Practical applications will be covered in depth, such as root collar excavation, radial trenching, soil amendment incorporation, and root zone decompaction. The course will also address equipment selection, setup, safe operating procedures, and how to integrate air spading into Plant Health Care programs. Real-world case studies and demonstrations will highlight how air excavation can improve diagnostics, support tree preservation, and reduce stress during construction or remediation projects. Attendees will leave with the knowledge to confidently identify when and how to apply air spading techniques to enhance tree health and longevity.

DAY 2 (Morning or Afternoon Session: 8:00AM-12:00PM -or- 1:00PM-5:00PM): Four hours of Hands-on Training & Demonstration

This interactive training session gives participants the opportunity to put air spading theory into practice. After a brief review of safety protocols, equipment setup, and core techniques, attendees will step into the field to operate the AirSpade on live trees under expert supervision. Participants will learn and practice root collar excavation, radial trenching, and soil decompaction, as well as proper methods for incorporating soil amendments. The exercise emphasizes safe tool handling, efficient excavation techniques, and minimizing stress to tree roots. By the end of the session, attendees will have firsthand experience with air excavation equipment, a better understanding of soil and root system responses, and the confidence to apply airspading techniques in real-world arboricultural work.
