Effective Report Writing: Guidance for Arborists and Urban Foresters

Date: January 24, 2020
Location: Surrey Nature Centre, Surrey, British Columbia, CANADA
Organizer: Pacific Northwest Chapter of ISA
Sponsor: Pacific Northwest Chapter of ISA
Description: Writing is a critical part of communication. If the reader cannot understand what you are telling them, how do you expect them to proceed? In this class we will review how to write effectively. We will work on the writing styles needed to develop or respond to a request for proposal, as well as site memos, field reports, letter and formal reports with each one tailored to their intended use. The report themes will focus on risk assessment, construction sites, and site memos in general.

This is an interactive course and participants will need to bring their own laptop computer with the ability to use Microsoft Word software. It should be fully charged and have a USB port to upload files provided by the instructor via a USB drive.

Throughout the day the class will work on their laptops with specific writing exercises as well as editing and writing sample reports. In the afternoon we will examine submitted or other sample reports, and critique them as a group to discuss how they might be improved.
