We are in the final phase of a 69,000 volt transmission power line vegetation reclamation project that took place on a 4.4 mile segment of power line feeding electricity to the cities of Winter Springs and Oviedo FL. This transmission power line was built in 1953, in the center of a 100' wide right of way which was heavily overgrown with trees and brush. The easement needed reclaimed because this power line is scheduled to be rebuilt. The 61 year old wood poles are nearing the end of their life expectancy.
The project started in July of this year, with a meeting in Winter Springs City Hall with the city manager, city commissioner, city forester, and multiple Duke Energy employees. At the height of the project we had 25 work trucks and over 60 people working on this project. Because most of this power line runs through backyards in a heavily populated city, we had a lot of upset land owners including television news coverage.
