The Portal to Research provides academics, students, and citizen scientists with links to existing literature, search databases, and reference sites.

This portal also provides additional tips through a series of informative articles on searching literature, conducting research, submitting manuscripts to refereed publications, and performing statistical analyses. Additional links are provided for resources such as funding that are crucial to arboriculture and urban forestry research.

LITERATURE REVIEWS

The International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) was founded, in part, as a means of supporting research in the care and management of trees, and as a means of facilitating dissemination of the research-based knowledge.

One of the primary initiatives of ISA’s strategic plan is to promote and facilitate worldwide technology transfer. To that end, ISA’s Science and Research Committee (SRC) has contracted a series of arboricultural literature reviews with the goal of synthesizing current knowledge and identifying research gaps in arboriculture and urban forestry.

ISA is continuing their series of scientific literature reviews, with the goal of identifying the frontiers of arboriculture and disseminating this knowledge to the profession worldwide. The first step in advancing our knowledge is to perform a literature review to ascertain what is already known and what research has already been conducted. To that end, ISA is now accepting proposals for literature reviews on the topics of tree benefits and public awareness, plant health care, urban and community forestry, and mature tree care and preservation. Research Needs Assessment Survey

ISA and TREE Fund have completed a joint research needs assessment project. The main goals of the project were to identify the research needs and interests of the arboriculture community and to help the two organizations proactively support the research needed for the long-term growth of our profession. To accomplish these goals, a survey was sent to a representative sample of ISA members, and over 2,500 survey responses were tabulated.

A final report summarizes the survey’s key findings, implications of the findings for ISA and TREE Fund, and recommendations for actions to take based on these implications. Click here to view the full report.
